Baby Halo

The Ultimate Head Support for Preemie and Full Term Babies, helps prevent Flathead Syndrome.

Once Used Only in Hospitals - Now Available for New Moms and Dads in the Home
Now you can dramatically reduce the chance that your baby will suffer Flathead Syndrome by using the Cinis Baby Halo. This ultimate head support for preemies and full term babies has been used in hospitals worldwide. BioTech Research now makes it possible for parents to use it in the home.

Since 1992, the number of infants with Flathead Syndrome has increased from 1 in 400 babies to as many as 1 in 10 babies according to numerous medical studies. The increase in Flathead Syndrome has coincided with the American Academy of Pediatrics Back to Sleep campaign. They continue to recommend that babies sleep on their backs to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Since the AAP's campaign, the incidence of SIDS has DECREASED by almost 40% in the U.S. However, over the same period of time, the incidence of Flathead Syndrome has risen dramatically. Every baby born has a chance of getting Flathead Syndrome and statistics are showing that 1 in 10 babies do have some type of Flathead.

With the Halo, parents can prevent Flathead while still following the Back to Sleep Guidelines. Flathead Syndrome is caused by the many hours that an infant sleeps in the same position repeatedly (usually on their back), which can cause the back of the head or the ear on the flattened side to push forward.

The Cinis Halo was developed by a neonatal nurse to help very fragile preemie babies. She designed the Halo as a round, flesh-like cushion that provides the soft enveloping comfort of a mother's touch while helping with the development of a perfectly shaped head. The Cinis Baby Halo is now being used in many hospitals in the United States. BioTech wants every new parent to be able to use this advanced hospital tested device in the home.

The Baby Halo does not restrict the movement of the baby's head at all. The infant has full range of movement. After placing an infant's head onto this soft, flesh-like halo, mothers have noticed the contented look on their babies' faces. It's a reassuring look that lets you know your little angel is blissfully happy on his or her halo.

For more details on the Cinis Baby Halo, here is a recent interview with Cindy Salido, the developer of this remarkable new product.

Q: What is your background?
Cindy Salido: I have a bachelor of Nursing Degree and have been a nurse, primarily in the neonatal area, for 24 years.

Q: What in your nursing experience compelled you to develop the Cinis Baby Halo?
C.S.: First, let me explain something about babies' heads. Almost everyone knows about the soft spot on the top of a baby's head, but actually the entire cranium of the newborn is still "soft" because of the incredible growth that will occur during the first six months. In premature infants this softness of the cranium is much greater and can lead to misshapen heads if the baby is in the same position for a long time. I noticed that many times when parents were finally allowed to take their precious babies home, one of their main concerns was the odd shape of their babies' heads.

Q: What finally moved you to develop the Cinis Baby Halo?
C.S.: Over the years demands on nurses have multiplied tremendously. I found I didn't even have time to put together make-shift halos or explain to other new nurses their importance. It is very hard to stand by and see the new babies and their parents suffer from a problem that could be easily rectified. I decided to spend my own time and money to develop a sturdy, reusable halo that could be used in hospitals and at home.

Q: Many people have commented about the unusual feel of the halo. What is this magical material and why is it so important?
C.S.: Cinis Baby Halos are made from a proprietary medical device material called Dermasol DS300. Many years of research dollars went into the development of the material so that it could pass skin contact and biocompatibility tests. Dermasol is FDA approved. One of the main ingredients is mineral oil which gives it that silky feel and is also beneficial for the skin of a newborn. It can be washed with just warm soapy water and patted dry.

Q: What do you feel are the main reasons new parents should get a Cinis Baby Halo?
C.S.: The main reason would be that using the Halo keeps the baby's head from lying flat on the bed so that he or she does not develop depressions or flat spots. It has been tested and used in hospitals on very fragile preemies and found to be effective. It is lightweight, yet very durable, which means it can be used over and over with many infants. The Halo is made of FDA approved material and has absolutely no latex content. It is easy to use and due to the small size it can be used anywhere: at day care, in the car seat or in the baby carrier.

It's not only a great head support device for babies, but this Halo gives new parents a little boost of confidence and peace of mind at a time when their lives may be very hectic.
